It’s the year 1949: In post-war Germany many people dared to take the step towards becoming self-employed, including THIMM founder, Walter Felix THIMM. In Herzberg am Harz he founded a paper and cardboard wholesaling business which purchased prefabricated corrugated cardboard and then further processed it into packaging. These were not standard products but individual products tailored to customer requirements such as corrugated cardboard boxes with padded corners for radios and radiograms or special packaging for car parts.

The company grew rapidly in the recovery of the post-war years and space in Herzberg became scarce. This is why back in 1951 Walter Felix Thimm bought the property of a former canning factory in Northeim. In 1953, production and administration moved to the new premises in southern Lower Saxony, which has remained THIMM’s headquarters to this day. Successful years of growth followed and the number of employees also rose significantly. This paved the way for the establishment of THIMM Wellpappen KG.
