75 years of THIMM: One corrugator in twelve waggons

The first corrugator in Northeim

We are jumping into 1958. THIMM in Northeim has been now been producing packaging to meet customer requirements for nine years. In order to expand further Walter Felix Thimm now wanted to start producing corrugated boards himself instead of purchasing them. But it seemed impossible to be able to purchase a corrugator.

The company founder made a bold decision: He bought an over ten-year-old corrugator from Switzerland that had been taken out of service and dismantled into innumerable individual parts – for a high price and without even knowing whether it would ultimately work. The 80-metre machine was transported in twelve waggons and over several days to southern Lower Saxony and assembled in Northeim.

By Christmas 1958 the day had finally arrived. THIMM started to produce its corrugated cardboard independently and was now independent from its previous suppliers. The big risk had paid off! With the independence this provided, packaging developers were now able to respond to customer requests with even more focus and flexibility – the central aspiration at THIMM to this day.
