Mechanics Team Leader at THIMM in Alzey

My journey at THIMM began over ten years ago with an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic at the site in Alzey. Afterwards, I qualified as an industrial specialist in metalworking, which opened up new development opportunities for me. Since 2022, I’ve been Mechanics Team Leader.

My main task is to work with my team to make sure that our machines run reliably. In short, I coordinate repairs and maintenance, order spare parts, plan shifts and maintain close contact with Production and manufacturers. My day starts at six in the morning with the shift handover, where I'm informed what has happened overnight and what we have to do next. Every minute of machine downtime costs money, so everything has to run quickly and in a coordinated way.

I particularly like the mix of technology and organisational work: I’m not just sitting at my desk, but also working on the machines regularly – as part of general operation or for major weekend repairs. There's no such thing as sitting still. This keeps my technical knowledge up to date and allows me to work closely with my team. You can only learn about the special features of the machines through hands-on experience.

How do I do this? Technical understanding, flexibility and a strong network both in the plant and across locations. We team leaders regularly exchange ideas and provide support, including when it comes to spare parts.
