Schönox is a brand belonging to Sika Deutschland GmbH and it markets a wide range of adhesive solutions for the trade. The most efficient transportation packaging possible was required for shipping the new product, iLine App, an adhesives applicator. The multi-material solution created by Thimm Packaging Systems is based on a corrugated cardboard folding box designed to the Fefco Standard.
The sophistication of the packaging is showcased in its interior where custom-fit pre-cut pieces made from corrugated cardboard and cushion foam fix and protect the product. It also includes a corrugated cardboard wrap-around. This acts as a spacer, provides additional fixings for the product and prevents slipping. The wrap-around is also used as an accessory compartment. Combined with elastic napped foam which is pushed compressed into the compartment, different accessories and spare parts can be transported and stored there safely.
“Thanks to the very stable corrugated cardboard design, the planned additional wood outer packaging has not been required which has had a positive impact on the weight and handling”, says Manfred Friedrich, Flooring Technology Field Marketing Manager, Sika Deutschland GmbH, describing the result. “The modular design means that no additional parts, such as an accessory box, are required. This simplifies handling significantly and saves time. Furthermore, after transportation the packaging can continue to be used for a long time by the tradesman as storage for the product and its accessories. To sum up, with this packaging solution we have found an extremely efficient solution for the iLine App product”.
Thimm Packaging Systems have also been singled out recently for their expertise in the development and production of transportation and industrial packaging. In the Czech packaging prize Obal roku 2018 the transportation packaging for monitor brackets won an award in the “Automotive/Transport and Industrial Packaging” category. The original packaging which contained a huge amount of bubble wrap and adhesive tape was replaced by an optimised corrugated cardboard solution. Both parts of the bracket were fixed separately in the internal protective fixing mechanism. The fixing itself is produced as a single-piece cut-out which can be stored flat-pack before being used for packaging. When folding the fixing together each part locks into place and this creates protective padding elements, providing the manufacturer with a safe and practical packaging solution.
