The requirements for corrugated cardboard transportation packaging are frequently very diverse. These packaged products are generally sensitive components which need to be shipped intact and securely. THIMM has developed a sustainable, corrugated cardboard spare part packaging system for the spare part of a car climate control system.
The packaging for the spare part for the climate control system was developed in alignment with FEFCO 0422 and is based on the requirements of a customer in the automotive sector. The climate control system attachment had to be shippable individually and on a piece by piece basis. This was to avoid any possible deformation of vulnerable rubber parts of the customer product inside the spare part packaging.
The complete packaging system for the spare part of the climate control system is based on a modified corrugated cardboard box. The product-specific cut-outs are used to precisely place and fix the spare part on the corrugated cardboard box inside the spare parts packaging. The corrugated cardboard outer packaging designed in accordance with FEFCO 0422 ensures the product on the corrugated cardboard box is packaged as completely transport-ready. The functional enclosures of the folding box and the internal corrugated cardboard box of the spare part act as handle and lock. Both fixtures are located on the same side so that when packing the spare part the internal fixing is blocked in the correct position against the folding box.
The product cut-outs and the fixing of the spare part inside the packaging prevent the vulnerable rubber part of the spare part of the climate control system touching the packaging.
Once the spare part packaging is completely sealed the corrugated cardboard only touches the areas of the spare part which cannot be damaged. This ensures the customer product remains fixed and immobile in the spare part packaging for the duration of the transportation and any possible warehousing. This avoids damage to the spare part.
