Meat loaf from the corrugated cardboard baking mould: Thimm develops sustainable innovation for the trades and the food industry

30.04.2019 Thimm has developed corrugated cardboard baking shells for baked meat that are used for the production of meat loaf. The moulds are heated to 160 degrees Celsius in the process. The innovative corrugated cardboard consists to 100 percent of fresh fibre paper, is certified and completely recyclable. Thimm produces the sustainable meat loaf moulds exclusively for Nette Papier GmbH.

“When meat loaf is baked, industrial operations and butchers often do this with aluminium forms. However, aluminium is often criticised as being damaging to health”, explains Michael Weber, Head of Corporate Marketing Thimm Group. “Our innovative meat loaf baking moulds of corrugated cardboard represent a responsible and sustainable alternative”.

Thimm produces the baking moulds from the food certified corrugated cardboard type foodWave® | heatproof. Only paper made of fresh fibres is used for manufacture. The corrugated cardboard is equipped with a water-based coating and demonstrates a high so-called Kit value (unit of measurement for evaluating fat density) of 12. The baking mould is designed joint-free in E-flute and is glued in production with two dots of glue. They can thus be easily set up and stacked in one another as required. Thimm produces the meat loaf baking forms under strict hygienic conditions in certified plants pursuant to the BRC standard. Certified printing inks for indirect contact with food are also used in flexo direct printing.

Michael Weber explains the design: “Our special corrugated cardboard is the best solution for all food products that are baked in the manufacturing process. All processed materials are suitable for baking applications up to 220 degrees Celsius. This has been confirmed by an independent testing laboratory. The heat-resistant baking moulds are thus ideally suited for baked meat containing fat and water. Greasing of the baking moulds is dispensed with, although this would actually be possible with our corrugated cardboard”.

The corrugated cardboard baking moulds are currently available from Nette Papier GmbH for 500, 1,000 and 2,000 gram meat loaf.
